It has been a busy winter in real estate and the Bluebird world alike. With the hope of the traditional spring flurry of listings, Portland buyers are locking in their interest rates and flocking to the latest listings in full force. Competing in a market with low inventory and high demand presents its fair share of challenges, but the buyers willing to get creative are still prevailing, even in the face of competitive cash offers. And Bluebird buyers are no exception.
When he landed a job back in the Pacific Northwest after 10+ years of east coast living, my latest friend-turned-buyer Jeff didn't hesitate at the opportunity to own a home near his native Portland. Although his office was nearly 75 minutes from the city, he was attracted to the idea of a short work commute and the small town feel that McMinnville boasts. (Sunset Magazine recently named the mid-sized wine country metropolis one of the Top 20 Communities in the West). So we set forth scouring the listings for a property that he could put some "sweat equity" into and personalize during downtime from his busy work schedule. Touring properties ranging from move-in ready to total fixer, it didn't take him more than (a record!) half a dozen showings before we found the One: charming character with great bones and opportunity for cosmetic retouches.
Walkable to bookstores, bars and quaint coffee joints (my favorite) on historic NE Third Street, the property features original fir floors throughout the bedrooms and a bonus family room addition, perfect for entertainment. The private outdoor space provides an ideal barbecuing patio and flowering fruit trees. He already has plans to remodel his dream kitchen and a potential second bathroom!
Welcome back to Oregon and congratulations, Jeff!
